Deselecting Devastation is a web-based serious-game primarily made in response to the topic of Climate Change and humans’ role in this.
The game communicates the time-sensitive nature of sustainability to non-experts. The player is in charge of global decisions, facing choices on topics such as the future of food and energy, AI and space colonisation, all with the backdrop of impending climate crisis. The subjects are simplified and exaggerated, but clearly show that every choice has consequences that lead to tipping points. The aim of the game is to guide the world through to a point where the future looks hopeful, but it can also be played to see how quickly destruction can be brought about. Once the game is completed, the player has the chance to see the ways that they could reduce their individual environmental impact, outside the game.
